Most overrated athletes

To say that Pippen is overrated is absurd. Im not saying that he was great or anything, I never thought much of him myself. My argument is that the man never got any of the glory that I have seen. Yes he was named one of the 50 greatest but when do you ever hear people talk about him?

On the Pippen deal I agree with Rocketer...he was a good player but not one of the greatest 50 of all time. He got all the credit as being Jordan's leading support but there were several other really good players on those Chicago teams. If you wanna talk about guys who were underrated on those chicago teams then you better talk about guys like Horace Grant, Toni Kukoc, Ron Harper, Steve Kerr, Bill Cartwright, etc... All of them were solid contributers but were overshadowed by Jordan's accomplishments.

Ali was overrated and still is. He was a great heavyweight and had more than 2 big wins in his career(see Joe Frazier) but it has been blown way out of proportion I think partly due to his political status and other things. Mike Tyson to me is even more overrated than Ali though. Atleast Ali can say he beat 4 or 5 top notch heavyweights in his career...i'm not sure Tyson can say that unless you call Tony Tubbs, Razor Ruddock(who was pretty good), Bonecrusher Smith and Michael Spinks top notch heavyweights...because those were some of his biggest career wins. Ali had some embarrassing losses such as Leon Spinks and a few other embarrassing fights that he still won but Tyson tops them all...he got beat down by James Buster Douglas in his prime(atleast Ali's loss to Spinks was on the downside of his career)...what else did Buster Douglas ever do? And we don't even want to talk about what happened to Tyson at the end of his career...Peter McNeely??? Good lord.

Marino is not overrated, end of story. If anything some QB's get overrated just for being part of a superbowl team. Roethlisberger is a prime example. Others would incluce Kurt Warner and Bob Griese.

Kobe Bryant is underrated if anything. Shaq is more overrated than Kobe. I've always thought Vince Carter and Allen Iverson were overrated. The most underrated player in the NBA is Manu Ginobili.

The NFL has several QB's who are overrated. Top of the list is Donovan McNabb, next would be Daunte Culpepper...then you have Payton Manning who is great but still overrated I think mainly due to his name. The underrated guys are Drew Brees, Brad Johnson, Trent Green and Carson Palmer and to a lesser degree Matt Hasselbeck. Other underrated players are Tiki Barber, Steve Smith and Bryan Westbrook...Other overrated players: Keyshawn Johnson, Deuce McCallister, Ricky Williams, Terrell Owens, Clinton Portis.

Like I said before Ali was the most overated athlete ever.

If you want underrated athletes, the biggest in Domonique Wilkins. A human highlight real that could do it all and he was not even put on 50 greatest basketball players of all time.

Mentioning Joe frazier actually brings up a good point. Joe was a decent "little" heavyweight who held a victory over Ali. If you take a look at Joe's career record you'll find that Ali was the only top level fighter he ever beat.

Underrated, Stan Musial actually comes to mind. Although not exactly forgotten he doesn't get the kind of attention that a career .331 hitter with nearly 1400 extra base hits should recieve.

Another underrated athlete, even though I hate the Yankees, is Paul O'Neil pretty solid both ways just not many gave him the credit he desereved

Michael Vick is way overrated, no way he deserved to be All Pro last year. Kobe Bryant isn't overrated but Id take LeBron before him if I had the choice. Shaq is a good player, but he isn't the dominant Shaq night in night out he was with the Magic and Lakers. His age is catching up with him but he is still has nights where he carries the team.
